James Feldman Tribute

To remember Dr. Feldman and raise awareness of ALS

Please visit the ALS Association at  http://www.alsa.org.  The ALSA runs local support chapters throughout the country.

Currently there is no known cure or prevention drug/immunization for ALS. The only FDA-approved drug called Rilutek has been shown in clinical studies to extend patient life by several months. New studies using Lithium are being done.  Eastern medicine and therapuetic techniques can help with symptoms.

There is no known cause for ALS. It is generally not hereditary and scientists have linked the disease to a mutation in certain DNA.

About ALS

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a degenerative disease of the nervous system that attacks the motor neurons. As it spreads, the neurons lose their protection from toxins that are removed in a healthy person’s body. Eventually the neurons die and the patient loses motor control which affects speech, eating, mobility, and breathing.
